I am posting a photographic journal showing my progress as I build the vardo. I began April 17, 2015 with the purchase of a used utility trailer and stripped the old wood off of it the next day.
The galvalume was purchased from a local steel roofer near Owen Sound. I purchased 3 sheets and had the 3rd sheet cut to fit and used the little remaining piece to make the drip edge.
Robert. It took me approx. 3 months, a couple of hours each day on the average with several weekends not working on it. The basic frame took the longest as I sorta designed as I went. I used 2X2’s for the walls and 5 cedar 2×4’s for the ceiling joists. The 2×2’s were finger-jointed spruce, kiln dried and very straight. The cedar was clear. Lots of construction adhesive and screws. I used a pneumatic nailer to hold pieces in place while I then drilled and used screws. Hope that helps you out.
The ceiling was 3/16 inch plywood from home depot, a less expensive substitute for mahogany ply used as an underlay flooring. The one side looked so good that I just gave it 2 coats of polyurethane. before attaching it to the rafters.
This vardo trailer was only on the road for delivery. I had another trailer that was registered as a camper trailer, it too was homebuilt, and had been properly plated.
Hello Chrislyn. I purchased it at Home Depot. In the millworks / trim dept.

Does this trailer require being registered and licensed through your Department Motor Vehicles? If so what is it classified as?
